I Hiked on the Roller Coaster of the Appalachian Trail Today
I'll tell the the "up and downs" of my hiking trip in this blog post. Also, did you know your butt can get sore?
For those of you who had the chance to read my last blog post, I retold the horror story of my last backpacking trip. The idea there was: bring better hiking shoes & a warmer sleeping bag.
In this post, I’ll give a brief overview of my hiking trip that started yesterday and ended today. I got an idea from it.
The Roller Coaster of the Appalachian
For those who don’t live on the East Coast of America, we hikers have a famed trail called the Appalachian. Its a trail that runs north/south about 2,200 miles.
My mother, father, sister, Italian exchange student, and I hiked part of this section of the Appalachian trail. About 14 miles worth of trail over 2-days was hiked.
We didn’t do too much research into the “type” of trail section before hiking it. So we were obviously in shock after realizing how much the elevation changed up and down. On closer look into the reviews of the trail after we hiked it, we realized it was specifically hated for its painful roller-coaster style.
It turns out due to the zoning of housing the “trail-masters”, or people who blaze and manage trails, had to follow an odd path through the mountains that resulted in such a despisable section of the Appalachian.
Regardless, we hiked 7 miles into it, spent a night, then hiked back out of it. My butt is still sore as of typing this.
My gluteus maximus is stronger because of this lack of planning, so it turned out okay!
What’s the Idea?
PLAN AHEAD
OR
DON’T PLAN AHEAD to push yourself harder and learn something in the process.
